Immigration Law

What I can help you with

Often something changes in life that affects the residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel): a job is lost, a relationship ends, studies are finished. In such situations I advise you on your residence permit, on the settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) and on naturalisation (Einbürgerung). If an application has been rejected, I check whether a court action makes sense.

My areas of practice in immigration law:

  • Aufenthaltstitel
  • Niederlassungserlaubnis
  • Einbürgerung

What can I help you with?

You can come to me if

your situation in life changes …

  • … because you finish your studies and need a different residence permit (Aufenthaltstitel)
  • … because you lose your job or start a new job
  • … because you separate from the spouse your right of residence depends on

you are planning your stay for the long term …

  • … and want to know which residence permit fits your plans, for example for work or for family reasons
  • … and want to check whether you can get a settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) or an EU long-term residence permit (Daueraufenthalt-EU)
  • … and are aiming for naturalisation (Einbürgerung)
  • … and want to bring your family to Germany
  • … and want to know whether you can receive social benefits with your residence permit

the Ausländerbehörde (immigration office) …

  • … rejects your application for a residence permit
  • … does not decide on your application within a reasonable time
  • … gives you the chance to comment before it makes a decision and you want to respond
  • … does not extend your residence permit or later shortens it
  • … finds that you, as an EU citizen, have no right to freedom of movement (any more)

the Einbürgerungsbehörde (naturalisation office) …

  • … rejects your application for naturalisation
  • … does not decide on your application within a reasonable time

What it costs

I charge my fees under the Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz (RVG, the German law on lawyers‘ fees). In every case, I check whether legal aid for court proceedings (Prozesskostenhilfe) is an option. If a court action or a legal remedy is successful, the authority usually pays the costs.
